Qualifications of Teen Transport Employees And Associates
New Start Transports believes that character, training, experience, and educational qualifications are a necessity in the employees and associates that we employ. We are a family of highly trained and qualified professionals who expect the same from our youth transport employees and associates.
Our teen transport service employs a diverse team of highly trained and qualified teen transport employees and associates dedicated to the family clients of New Start Transports and personalizing the safe transportation of their child from the place of pick-up to the destination that is predetermined by the parent guardians of the teen.
New Start Transports puts a great amount of emphasis on its Human Resource Department. The human resource staff that interview and hire our employees and associates are very involved and aware of what takes place during the teen transport process. Here are some of the items that our Human Resource Department expects and looks for in the employees and associates we hire:
- Previous experience of working with struggling at-risk teens. This experience includes but is not limited to: current or former youth program director, program management or direct care staff, former parent of a troubled teen placed in a program, student alumni of a program, former troubled teen that is now living a successful life, nurses, therapists, state correction officers of youth or adults, law enforcement (we do not implement law enforcement procedures or approaches), counselors, school teachers, teen transport lead or assistants, and any other related field or profession that has not been listed.
- Many of our teen transport employees and associates may have certification and training in the following areas: CPI's NCI (nonviolent crisis intervention) program, PCS (positive control systems), Mandt intervention training, crisis intervention training, CPR, and First Aid.
- We look for employees and associates with college degrees in related fields to working with at-risk teens such as, but not limited to: criminal justice, police academy training (we do not implement law enforcement approaches or techniques), psychology, human development, behavioral science, and any other similar bachelor or graduate degrees.
- Prior to employment, we provide at least 2 interviews, reference and employment verification checks, and personality tests to get a better understanding of the personality type of a potential employee or associate of New Start Transports.
- Once we make the decision to hire a new employee or associate, this offer of employment is contingent on passing a state and FBI background clearance check, a pre-employment drug screening, a pre-employment DMV check, and verification of other necessary items.
- After an employee or associate is hired, they are required to complete a pre-hire training packet, pre-hire training course. We often will have the new hire transport employees and associates shadow at least one teen intervention to make sure the new employee or associate is comfortable and confident with the procedures of New Start Transports.
- All agents must be able and willing to registered through the California TrustLine and pass an FBI background screening.
- Within 90 days, new hire employees and associates must complete and pass the California TrustLine Registry, CPR, First Aid, NCI (nonviolent crisis intervention) program.
- New Start Transports provides quarterly trainings in NCI for its employees and associates.
- We require all employees and associates to complete NCI and other company training programs through our company. We do not allow training at other employment to compensate for the training we provide and require of our staff.
- We have a mandate non-mechanical restraint policy. This means that we do not have the use of handcuffs or other mechanical restraints in our standard polices and procedures. We have found that many of the companies that do not follow similar procedure practices are either not insured or not following the bonding requirements of their insurance provider. For parents that feel that mechanical restraints are necessary, we do have additional legal requests and waiver forms that can be filled out for us to consider the use of them as a last resort.
- Please contact us with any other questions on the qualifications of the employees and associates of our teen transport team!
In addition all of our youth transport agents undergo a 90 day training program. This 90 day training is followed by quarterly trainings and a continuous training program. Our youth transport agents are trained in the proper and effective de-escalation techniques and when and how to use physical restraints. We focus on training our youth transport agents in de-escalation techniques that require no physical intervention. New Start Transports firmly believes in the rights and dignity of your child and we want them to feel respected and safe at all times. Our main focus is the approach our youth transport agents use to interact with your child by using their ability to express themselves in a caring and manner showing love and concern instead of force and impatience. With this in mind, it is important to know and recognize that at times physical restraint is mandatory. This would include any time a youth is at risk of causing harm to themselves or another person. This is why all of our agents are also professionally trained in various methods of physical restraint techniques. We strive to keep the focus of our transport training on how to keep situations from escalating to a physical intervention level. We find that with our youth transport agent's training we are able to successfully intervene at the mental and psychological level before the need of physical intervention.
New Start Transports strives to have the best qualified and trained youth transport agents in the youth transport industry. We look for youth transport agents with an extensive background working with troubled youth facilities, special education, education, therapists, medical, bilingual in speech, and all other fields that may be helpful in the personalized and safe transport of the youth we help.
New Start Transports is a family of highly trained and dedicated professionals. Together we want to provide your family and/or client with the most personalized youth transport.
